BRANDSKYPE TRADEMARK & BRAND GUIDELINES

	These Guidelines set out	The purpose of this document is to provide guidelines on how third parties mayto use or otherwise refer to trade marks, service marks, trade names, signs, logos, icons, slogans, banners, screen shots of the Skype user interface, trade dress, links, sounds and other brand features belonging to Skype (the "SKYPE BRAND ELEMENTS").Brand Assets, which are: 

	At Skype, our reputationtrademarks such as the Skype logo, the Skype icon and brand are extremely important to us. We want our customers to have a safe and secure experience with our communications platform products and we need to ensure that we protect our reputation and brand accordingly.  	 The general rule
 	 Permissions from SkypeUSAGE REQUIREMENTS

	(a) If	Thank you alreadyfor your interest in using the Skype Brand Assets. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to do so. We have a written agreement withspecific usage requirements that manage and protect the value of the brand. By using any of the Skype Brand Assets, you expressly consent to be bound by these guidelines. 

	(b) If	If you do not have a writtenan existing agreement with Microsoft or Skype, check that first to determine if your desired use of our Skype Brand Assets is covered. If there is any conflict between these guidelines and the terms of your agreement, then the terms of your agreement will govern, and you should follow those. 

 	 Limited exceptions to	If no agreement exists or if the general ruleproposed use doesn’t fall within the scope of your existing agreement, check if the use falls within the Microsoft Trademark Guidelines & Brand Guidelines. 

	(a) Use	Finally, if the use is not covered in any of Skype Word Marks the above or you are not sure, you may directly request a separate license from Microsoft. Such license must be initiated and approved by the Microsoft business owner who you are working with. If you do not have a business owner contact, email skypebrand@microsoft.com to get started.   

	(b) Your Skype contact details SKYPE LOGO

	(c) Screenshots	While the wordmark Skype and the app icon are registered trademarks of the Microsoft group of companies, there is no need to use the trademark bug ™ or the ® symbol when using them, unless Microsoft has expressly asked you to do so. 

	(d) Linking	If, when using the Skype Brand Assets, you include a trademark credit to give notice of your own trademarks or other third-party trademarks, we ask that you add the following wording: “All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners.” 

	(e) School reports and projects	MICROSOFT LOGO 

	(f) Publications, seminars	Use the full-color Microsoft logo and conferences a one-color or reversed Skype logo. Make the height of the letter M in the Microsoft logo anywhere between 50 percent and 100 percent of the height of the S in the Skype icon. 100% (preffered)

	(h) Use by developers	Use the full Skype logo whenever possible. However, you may use the Skype icon in some instances. See Permitted uses of Skype Brand Assets. 

	(i) Use by hardware partners	COLOR 

	(j)	The color logo is our primary logo. Use by Affiliatesit on light or white backgrounds. You may use the reverse logo and icon on blue or other background colors, as well as on dark areas within photographs.

1. THE GENERAL RULE	CLEAR SPACE

We may modify any of the Skype Brand Elements at any time, and accordingly you should check this webpage regularly for updates to these Guidelines to ensure that your use conforms to our current guidelines. 	(A) IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A WRITTEN AGREEMENT WITH SKYPE	GENERAL USAGE

Your request should provide details of which Skype Brand Elements you wish to use, as well as a detailed proposal of how you will be using those elements. 3. LIMITED EXCEPTIONS TO THE GENERAL RULEPROHIBITED USES

	If you do	You must not have our express written agreement/permission to useincorporate any of the Skype Brand Elements, you may still use certain restricted Skype Brand Elements in specific limited circumstances, but ONLY as set out below in this section 3 and section 4 below. You should not use any Skype Brand Elements in any way that expressesAssets, or implies Skype affiliation, association, sponsorship, endorsement, certification,variations of them, into your own product features, product names, service names, trademarks, logos, company names, domain names, or approval.social media accounts unless otherwise permitted by the Microsoft Trademark & Brand Guidelines. 

	(A) USE OF SKYPE WORD MARKS TO REFER FACTUALLY TO OUR COMPANY OR OUR PRODUCTS	You must not adopt marks, logos or any other features that are confusingly similar to the Skype Brand Assets, and you must not market any product or service under a name that is confusingly similar to our products. 

	You may use certain of our Word Marks (see selected list of Word Marks atmust not copy or imitate the endSkype trade dress, “look and feel” or other identifiable and unique visual elements of this document) in order to identify the Skype group of companiesBrand Assets or its products, but you maywww.skype.com website, including (but not use ourlimited to) the color combinations, graphics, sounds, imagery, presence icons, logos, taglinestypefaces or any other features of thestylization used by Skype Brand Elements. 	(B) YOUR SKYPE CONTACT DETAILS	You must not use any Skype Brand Assets in any way that expresses or implies affiliation, association, sponsorship, endorsement, certification or approval with/by Skype or Microsoft. 

	You may use the Skype "S" logo on your business cards and/or on your website next	Make sure that any references to your Skype name,are truthful, accurate, fair and not misleading or in the sameany way that you might use the image of a letter for your email address. As such, it should be small (and no bigger than other symbols used for other contact methods), placed appropriately with your other contact methods and non-prominent e.g.: objectionable (as determined by Skype).

	(C) SCREENSHOTS	USE OF THE WORD “SKYPE” IN COPY 

	You may not use screen shots	Follow the Microsoft Trademark & Brand Guidelines. Avoid using any logo, icon, tagline or other features of the Skype product boot-up screens, opening screens, "splash screens," or screens from beta release products or other products that have not been commercially released. You may use other screen shotsBrand Assets in advertising, in documentation (including educational brochures), in tutorial books, in videotapes, or on websites, provided that, in addition to the requirements above, you:copy. 

	(i) contact skypebrand@microsoft.com with details	When using “Skype” or any other Skype trademarks in text, do one or more of your request and the image you wish to use and do not use without their approvalfollowing: 

	(ii) do not alter 	 Capitalize the screen shot except to resize it first letter of the word, Skype
 	 Put the whole word in capital letters, SKYPE
 	 Put the whole word in italics, Skype
 	 Put the whole word in quotation marks, “Skype”

	(iii) do	Use wordmarks only as adjectives, not as nouns or verbs. For example, use portions of screen shotsthe wordmark followed by the generic product or service name: Skype software. 

	(iv) do not include screen shots in your product user interface	Don’t use the Skype wordmark as a verb – for example, don’t say “I’m going to Skype my friend” or “Let’s Skype.” 

	(v) do not use screen shots that contain third-party content	CORRECT USE 

	(vi) do not use screen shots that contain an image of an identifiable individual	“The Skype software provides Internet communications products.” 

	(D) LINKING	“I use the Skype software." 

	You may link to the Skype.com website from another website owned by you, provided you do so in a way that is fair and legal and does not damage our reputation or take advantage of it. You must not establish a link in such a way as to suggest any form of association, approval or endorsement by Skype where none exists. You may not frame the site on any other site.	INCORRECT USE 

	(E) SCHOOL REPORTS AND PROJECTS	“I use the  software.” 

	Provided that you comply with these Guidelines, you may: use images or content from Skype products in school and college reports; and critique or comment on the Skype products.	BUSINESS STATIONERY AND SKYPE CONTACT DETAILS 

	(F) PUBLICATIONS, SEMINARS, AND CONFERENCES	Follow the Microsoft Trademark & Brand Guidelines. Use the Skype app icon next to your Skype username to show that you can be contacted by Skype. 

	You may refer	Only the app icon should be used to denote Skype on the cover of magazines and periodicals, and in the topic outlines in seminars and conferences, provided you comply with these Guidelines and the following specifications:contact details.

	(iv)	Only the Skype logo should be used. Do not use Skype Word Mark in the title of any magazine, periodical, seminar,make it larger or conference.more prominent than any other logos. 

	(v) Do not use any	You may mention Skype logos on or in copy, but be sure to follow Permitted uses of Skype Brand Assets elsewhere in this section. Use of the publication,logo or on any materials relatedwordmark cannot imply affiliation, association, sponsorship, endorsement, certification or approval with/by Skype or Microsoft. Microsoft reserves the right to withdraw the publication, seminar, or conference. Special circumstancesright to use the Skype logo where, in its sole discretion, it deems that such use may merithave a license from Skype.detrimental effect on the Skype brand. 

	(G) USE IN BROADCASTS	SCHOOL REPORTS AND PROJECTS 

	Broadcasters and studios can incorporate live face-to-face video calls into TV and film.	You may use images of Skype can also be used for free Skype-to-Skype calls during radio programming. Skype can be used for live on-air feeds from remote locations, for interviewing viewersproducts in their homes,reports for engaging expertsschool or college/university. If the images contain third party content (e.g. third party logos, photos etc.) then you may need additional permission from around the world, and even for connecting with correspondents in the field.third party to use such content. 

	If these projects may be published, you aremust get permission from us at skypebrand@microsoft.com before using Skype in a broadcast, you must use certainany of the Skype Brand Elements to indicate this use, but such use is only in accordance with the Broadcast Terms of Service and the Branding Guidelines for Broadcast and Film and these Guidelines.Assets or images. 

	(H) USE BY DEVELOPERS	PUBLICATIONS, SEMINARS AND CONFERENCES 

	(i) Desktop API: If you want	Refer to use the Skype desktop API for any purpose (including without limitation, in connection with an application or software program or forMicrosoft Trademark & Brand Guidelines and the purpose of interfacing with hardware), you must first accept the terms at http://developer.skype.com/terms-and-policies/accessories-terms.
 Subject to those terms, you are then permitted to refer to your product's compatibility with Skype, but only in accordance with the Skype public API Terms of Use (see http://developer.skype.com/terms-and-policies/accessories-terms, which may be amended from time to time) and thesePublications, Seminars, & Conferences Guidelines. You must not call your application Skype, anything similar to Skype or use the Skype logo. You must regularly monitor these websites to ensure that your use conforms to any guidelines or terms. 

	(ii) SkypeKit program, "plugged into Skype(tm)": If you are accepted into	You must include the SkypeKit program and your software product meets our testing criteria, you will be entitled to use the term "plugged into Skype(tm)" to describe your product's compatibility with Skype. You may apply to become part of the SkypeKit program by going to the Skype Developer website at http://developer.skype.com and requesting an invitation. You will also be permitted to use the "plugged into Skype" logo (as shown on the Skype Developer website at http://developer.skype.com/skypekit) on your product, packaging, website and promotional material. Such use must befollowing notice in accordance with the various Marketing Guidelines available on the SkypeKit pages. You must not call your application Skype, anything similar to Skype or use the Skype logo.legible print: 

	(iii) Using URIs to build Skype actions: You may use	“[List the sample URIs available at http://developer.skype.com/skype-uris or create your own solely in order to enable people to launch a Skype applicationBrand Assets being used [is/are] [a] trade mark or a Skype action. If you use a URI for such a purpose you are required to useother intellectual property of the Skype Brand Elements available at http://developer.skype.com/skype-uris/branding to identifyMicrosoft group of companies and [name of publication] is not affiliated, sponsored, authorized or otherwise associated by/with the action and such use will be governed by these Trade Mark Guidelines and any other guidelines which we may publish (and which may be amended from time to time).Microsoft group of companies.” 

	(I) USE BY HARDWARE PARTNERS	Don’t use the Skype wordmark as the leading word or most prominent element in your publication, seminar or conference title. 

	Hardware partners may use certain Skype Brand Elements depending on whether or not they have been through and passed Skype's certification process:	BROADCASTS, MOVIES AND PODCASTS 

	(i) SkypeKit program, "plugged into Skype(tm)": Hardware partners may apply	If you want to become part of the SkypeKit program by going to theuse Skype Developer website at http://developer.skype.com and requesting an invitation. Ifin a broadcast, movie, or podcast you are accepted and your product meets ourmay be required testing criteria, you will be entitled to use the term "plugged into Skype(tm)"certain Skype Brand Assets to describe your product's compatibility with Skype provided it incorporatesindicate this use. Unless you have a software component builtseparate agreement with SkypeKit . You will also be permitted to use the plugged intoMicrosoft or Skype logo (as shown on the Skype Developer website at http://developer.skype.com/skypekit) on your products, packaging, website and promotional material. Allthat allows such useuse, you must be in accordance withfollow the various Marketing Guidelines on the SkypeKit pages. You must not call your product Skype, anything similar to Skype or use the Skype logo.Broadcast Terms of Service. 

	(ii) Accessories program: Certain hardware partners will have entered into agreements with Skype which permit use of some of the Skype Brand Elements. Those agreements will govern their rights to use those Skype Brand Elements.	For all broadcast requests, email skypebrand@microsoft.com. 

	(J) USE	USE BY AFFILIATESDEVELOPERS 

	If you are a participant	DESKTOP API: Use of the Skype Affiliate Programme, you are entitledDesktop API is subject to use certain Skype banners and Skype Links (as that term is defined inyour agreement of the Skype Affiliate Agreement), but such use is only permitted in accordance with theDesktop API Terms of Use at: https://www.skype.com/en/legal/developer-tou/accessories-terms/. Subject to those terms of the Skype Affiliate Agreement and these Guidelinesrules, you are then permitted to refer to your product’s compatibility with Skype. 

4. HOW	USING URIS TO USE THEBUILD SKYPE BRAND ELEMENTS PROPERLYACTIONS: You may use the sample URIs available at http://developer.skype.com/skype-uris or create your own solely to enable people to launch a Skype application or a Skype action. 

	(A) GENERAL RULES APPLICABLE TO ANYONE WHO USES ANY OF THE SKYPE BRAND ELEMENTS	You must not call your application Skype, anything like Skype or use the Skype logo, and you must comply with these guidelines. 

 	 Ensure	You must regularly monitor these websites to ensure that you spell the Skype Brand Elements correctly - see the Skype Trade Mark list at the end of this document for correct spellings.
 	 Make sure that you distinguish the Skype Brand Elements from the surrounding textyour use conforms to any guidelines or background so that they stand out.terms. 

 	 For Word Marks do one	Your UI must not mimic the Skype UI or moreimply a Microsoft and/or Skype partnership with or sponsorship of the following:-your product.   

 	 Capitalise the first letter of the mark, Skype(tm);
 	 Put the whole mark in capital letters or in italics, skype(tm), SKYPE(tm); or
 	 Put the whole mark in quotation marks, "skype(tm)".FAQS

 	 Use Word Marks only as adjectives, for example, use the Word Mark followed by the descriptive generic term, e.g., Skype(tm) software. You may not use the Skype Word Marks as verbs.
 	 Use the relevant trade mark symbol. You should use the symbol (tm) to give notice that we assert trade mark rights in the Skype Brand Elements.
 	 Make sure that any references to Skype are truthful, fair and not misleading or in any way objectionable, as determined by Skype.
 	 Do not display any of the Skype Brand Elements as the most prominent element on your web site or elsewhere.

	(B) IF YOU HAVE OUR EXPRESS AGREEMENT/PERMISSION TO USE ANY OF THE SKYPE BRAND ELEMENTS	A: Please contact us to request permission. If we grant you permission to do so then, unless we agree otherwise, you must not: 

 	 If you make referencealter the screen shot except to any Skype Brand Elements, you mustresize it
 	 use portions of screen shots
 	 include the following noticescreen shots in legible print when usingyour product user interface
 	 use screen shots that contain third-party content (unless you have permission from the Skype Brand Elements in published materialsrelevant third party to use the content); nor
 	 use screen shots that contain an image of an identifiable individual

	(C) IF YOU DO NOT HAVE OUR EXPRESS AGREEMENT/PERMISSION TO USE ANY OF THE SKYPE BRAND ELEMENTS BUT FALL WITHIN ONE OF THE LIMITED EXCEPTIONS SET OUT IN SECTION 4	A: You may link to the Skype.com website from another website owned by you, provided you do so in a way that is fair and legal and does not or could not (to be determined in Skype’s sole discretion) damage our reputation or take advantage of it. You must not establish a link in such a way as to suggest any form of association, approval or endorsement by Skype where none exists. 

 	 If you make reference to any Skype Brand Elements, you must include the following notice in legible print when using the Skype Brand Elements in published materials:	Q: CAN I USE THE SOUNDS YOU HEAR WHEN USING SKYPE? 

	"[List	A: No, sorry. We do not allow people to use the Skype Brand Elements being used] [is/are] [a] trade mark[s] ofsounds unless they are to be used when Skype and [name of referential user] is not affiliated, sponsored, authorised or otherwise associated by/withbeing shown in a broadcast scenario. If you wish to use the Skype groupsounds in this context, please see the Permitted uses of companies."Skype Brand Assets. 

5. USES EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED BY	Q: CAN I ADD THE SKYPE WEBSITE TO MY WEBSITE? 

 	 You must not use the Skype Brand Elements unless	A: No, you have express written agreement/permission from Skype or your use is otherwise allowed under these Guidelines.
 	 Domay not manufacture, sell, or give away merchandise items, such as T-shirts or mugs, that bear any Skype Brand Elements, including logos, except pursuant to an express written license from Skype.
 	 You must never refer to Skype in a way that might mislead someone to believe that your use is sponsored, affiliated with, endorsed by Skype or otherwise economically linked to Skype or that might be interpreted to suggest that content displayed by you has been authorised by, or represents the views or opinions of, Skype unless you have received written acknowledgement of the same by Skype.
 	 You must not incorporate any of the Skype Brand Elements, or variations thereof, into your own product names, service names, trade marks, logos, company names, domain names, meta tags, adwords, keywords and search terms etc.
 	 You must never change or modify the Skype Brand Elements, for example, through adding or deleting hyphens, combining words or by using abbreviations. Altering our logos, for example, changingframe the colours or dimensions or otherwise modifying them insite on any way is also prohibited.other site. 

 	 You must not adopt marks, logos or any other features that are confusingly similar to the Skype Brand Elements and you should not market any product or service under	Still have a name that is confusingly similar to our products.

 	 You must not use the Skype Brand Elements inquestion about using a way that is infringing, misleading, unfair, disparaging or obscene or otherwise objectionable, as determined by Skype in its sole discretion.
 	 You must not use the Skype Brand Elements in relation to products or services or on web sites that may be considered to be sexually explicit, vulgar, profane, offensive, obscene, defamatory, libellous, slanderous or otherwise unlawful, religiously or racially offensive or otherwise promoting hate towards individuals or groups; or which violate any applicable laws or is otherwise objectionable to Skype, as determined by Skype in its sole discretion.
