	EFFECTIVE DATE: OCTOBER 30, 2014	In order to function properly, Evernote needs access to several different software components and services on your device, some of which contain your personal information. This article describes information our applications collect from your device, and how we use that information. 

	In order to function properly, Evernote needs access to several different software components and services, some of which contain private user information. The purpose of this article is to describe what data is used by Evernote and specifically how the data is used. 

	When users	When you install, modify, or use an Evernote application, theyyou may see permission requests or alerts regarding all of the device capabilities anthe application could potentially use. For example, on Android usersyou will see a long, generic, technical list of device capabilities upon installation of anthe app, while on iOS usersyou will see device permission requests pop up as they use an application.are used in the app. Rather than list such permissions exhaustively, this article describes how each Evernote application uses key device features that may access or use private useryour personal information.

 	Many of these capabilities may be turned on or off through your device settings or your Evernote Peekaccount settings. 

ALL EVERNOTE APPLICATIONS

	 HARDWARE IDENTITY: Evernote looks upIDENTITY: Evernote stores your device's unique hardware identifiers (IMEI, SIM numbernumber, or other identifier) and description. Evernote stores thisdescription on our servers in order to: 

 	 allow you to review and revoke devices from Account Settings > Applicationsyour account settings
 	 enable promotional account upgrades
 	 calculate anonymous aggregate statistics on the number of unique devices accessing the Evernote service

  	 CAMERA AND MICROPHONE: Evernote uses your device's camera and microphone when you choose to capture images, audio, or video into a note.
 	 LINKEDIN AND GMAIL PROFILE: WhenACCOUNTS: When you connect your Evernote account with your LinkedIn or Gmail, EvernoteGmail accounts, we may sendaccess your full name and profile photo to Evernote servicefrom those services in order to display your photo and name forand photo to users that you connect towith in Work Chat. You can change these in your Evernote Account Settings at any time.
 	 LINKEDIN AND GMAIL CONTACT DATA: When you connectaccount settings. Evernote with LinkedIn or Gmail, Evernote will display and store thatmay also access your contact information inside Evernote on your device. Evernote does not store your contacts' information on its servers.to auto-complete email addresses when you share a note or notebook.

EVERNOTE FOR ANDROID

 	 SENSITIVE LOG DATA: This is used to help improve the product if you encounter a problem. For example, if the application crashes, you can select "Send logs" from the "Settings" screen. This will attach a log file to an email message. You can always review the contents before sending them to Evernote Support.
 	 KNOWN ACCOUNTS: This is used to ease Evernote account creation by pre-filling the email address field on the registration form. Evernote will only storeLOCATION: Evernote attaches your email address once and submit it as part of the registration process.
 	 ACCOUNTS: Evernote account details are sentlocation information to new notes and read fromuses your Android Account manager so you can manage the account easily. With your permission, other applications may also connect to your Evernote account.
 	 SYNC SETTINGS: Evernote allows user to control Evernote sync settings from Android's Account manager.
 	 CALENDAR EVENTS: Thislocation information is used to automatically providesuggest note titles based on calendar events (as well as location data).titles.
 	 LOCATION SERVICES: Location Services are used to determine the device's current location so that it can be attached to new notes. EVERNOTE IOSFOR IPHONE, IPAD, AND IPOD TOUCH

 	 CONTACTS: Evernote uses your contacts to auto-complete email addresses when the user sharesyou share a note vianote, share a notebook, or engage with others in Work Chat or email so email addresses can be autocompleted as they are typed. EVERNOTE FOR MAC

 	 EVERNOTE LOGIN CREDENTIALS: After signing into Evernote, Evernote may also display your login credentialscontacts’ photos inside your note or message list when contacts are stored in the system keychain. This allows you to use Evernote without having to log in each time the app launches.viewing shared notes or messages.
 	 LOCATION SERVICES: The first time a user launches Evernote, he/she is promptedLOCATION: Evernote attaches your location information to give access to the user'snew notes and uses your location information. This is usedinformation to store the location where asuggest note is created.
 	 CAMERA: The first time a user starts to record a photo note, he/she will be prompted to allow Evernote access to the device's camera application. This permission is stored to allow Evernote to capture photos from this device without prompting in the future.titles.

EVERNOTE FOR WINDOWS DESKTOP

 	 MICROSOFT OUTLOOK CONTACT DATA: When you connect Evernote with Microsoft Outlook, contact information may be saved inside Evernote onCONTACTS: Evernote uses your computer for easy autocompletecontacts to auto-complete email addresses when you sendshare a message throughnote, share a notebook, or engage with others in Work Chat. This information remains on your device and is not transmitted toChat or email. Evernote servers.
 	 ACTIVITY LOG DATA: Ifmay also display your app encounters a problem, you will be prompted to send a crash log to Evernote. This will send the log directly to Evernote technical support to help improve our products. You will have a chance to Open and review the log before sending.contacts’ photos inside your note or message list when contacts are viewing shared notes or messages.

EVERNOTE WINDOWS TOUCH FOR WINDOWS

 	 CAMERA: The system camera is accessed when the user chooses to create a Photo Note.
 	 MS LIVE ACCOUNT: This is used to ease Evernote account creation by pre-filling the email address field on the registration form. Evernote will only store your email address once and submit it as part of the registration process.Touch does not access any additional personal information.

SKITCH WINDOWS DESKTOPFOR ANDROID

 	 We do not collect orCONTACTS: Skitch uses your contacts to auto-complete email addresses when you share a Skitch image.
 	 LOCATION: Skitch uses your location as a canvas when you use any additional personal information from users.‘Map’ mode.
 	 PHOTOS: Skitch accesses your photos when you use ‘Photos’ mode.

SKITCH WINDOWS 8FOR IPHONE, IPAD, AND IPOD TOUCH

 	 CAMERA: The system camera is accessed when the user choosesCALENDAR: Skitch uses your calendar information to Takeauto-complete email addresses of meeting attendees.

SKITCH ANDROIDFOR MAC

 	 CAMERA: The system camera is accessed when the user chooses to Take a Photo so images can be used as a canvas.
 	 GALLERY: When the user selects Choose a Photo, this application accesses device photos so images can be used as a canvas.
 	 CONTACT DATA: This is used to allow the Android application to accessCONTACTS: Skitch uses your contact list in ordercontacts to autocompleteauto-complete email addresses when you email a note.
 	 LOCATION SERVICES: Location Services: When the user selects Draw on Map, Location Services are used to determine the device's current location so the map can be used as a canvas.
 	 EXTERNAL STORAGE: If an SD card or other external storage is connected, a user may opt to Save Image to that storage device. 
 	 OTHER INSTALLED APPLICATIONS: A user can tap the Share Icon to sendshare a Skitch Note to another application on the device. Skitch will check the list of currently installed apps and display a list of available targets for sharing. image.

SKITCH IOSFOR WINDOWS

 	 CALENDAR DATA: Calendar information is used when automatically adding titles to notes.
 	 CAMERA: The system camera is accessed when the user chooses to create a Photo Note so images can be used as a canvas.
 	 CAMERA ROLL: When the user selects Choose a Photo, this application accesses device photos so images can be used as a canvas.
 	 LOCATION SERVICES: When the user selects Draw on Map, Location Services are used to determine the device's current location so the map can be used as a canvas. 
 	 EVERNOTE LOGIN CREDENTIALS: After logging into Skitch, your login credentials are stored in the system keychain. This allows you to send notes to Evernote without having to sign in each time.
 	 CALENDAR DATA: Calendar information is used to allow you to email images directly to meeting attendees.Skitch does not access any additional personal information.

SKITCH MACTOUCH FOR WINDOWS

 	 CONTACT DATA: This is used to allow the application to access your contact list in order to autocomplete names and email addresses when you share a PDF Summary through email.
 	 CAMERA: The system camera is accessed when the user chooses to create a Camera Snapshot Skitch note so images can be used as a canvas.
 	 EVERNOTE LOGIN CREDENTIALS: After signing into Skitch, your login credentials are stored in the system keychain. This allows you to send notes to Evernote without having to sign in each time.Touch does not access any additional personal information.

SCANNABLE

 	 CAMERA: The system camera is accessed when the user beginsCALENDAR: Scannable uses your calendar information to scan a document.auto-complete email addresses of meeting attendees.
 	 CALENDAR: ScannableCONTACTS: Scannable accesses your calendarscontacts to look at meetings scheduled to occur one hour before and one hour after the current time so you can sharesave scanned files with meeting attendees. No information from your calendar nor attendees at these meetings is transmitted to Evernote servers.business cards.
 	 EVERNOTE LOGIN CREDENTIALS: After signing into Evernote through Scannable,LOCATION: Scannable attaches your login credentials are stored in the system keychain. This allows youlocation information to sendnew notes when saved to Evernote without having to sign in each time.
 	 NOTIFICATIONS: Scannable uses notifications to alert the user to information related to the application and its function.Evernote.

PENULTIMATE

 	 CAMERA ROLL: The system Camera Roll is accessedPHOTOS: Penultimate accesses your photos when the user chooses toyou add a photo to a pagenote or to use an image ascreate a custom paper style.
 	 EVERNOTE LOGIN CREDENTIALS: After signing into Penultimate, your login credentials are stored in the system keychain. This allows you to send notes to Evernote without having to sign in each time.
 	 DROPBOX AUTHENTICATION: After linking the app to your Dropbox account, an authentication token is stored to allow access to your Dropbox for sending and importing notebooks and papers, and for the optional automatic backup feature. Penultimate does not seestyle via camera capture or store your actual login credentials.on-device photos.

EVERNOTE WEB CLIPPER

 	 EVERNOTE LOGIN CREDENTIALS: After logging into Evernote, your login credentials are stored in the system keychain. This allows you to use Evernote without having to log in each time the app launches. Login information is also used to allow you to easily log in to other Evernote applications. 

EVERNOTE HELLO ANDROID

	No data is transmitted to Evernote unless the user creates that information inside the Hello application.  

 	 IMAGE GALLERY: When prompted by the user, Evernote Hello accesses the Camera Roll so that images can be used as a profile image.
 	 CONTACT DATA: Evernote Hello makes use of the system contact list: it allows users to add new people using contact info, search the contact list as well as people already in Hello and supports saving Hello contact information back to the system contact list. Evernote Web Clipper does not transmit the user's entire contact list to Evernote servers. Only contact data the user selects to include in a Hello Contact is synced and stored in Evernote.
 	 CALENDARS: Evernote Hello scans your calendars for appointments scheduled one hour before and one hour after the current time. Individuals scheduled for appointments can easily be added to Evernote Hello. Evernote does not transmit the user's entire calendar appointments to Evernote servers. Only calendar information the user selects to include in a Hello Meeting is synced and stored in Evernote.
 	 TEXT MESSAGING AND PHONE CALLS: Evernote Hello scans your text messaging and phone call logs to identify recent messages and calls for individuals so contacts can be easily be added to Evernote Hello with a shortcut. 
 	 LOCATION SERVICES: When the user creates a new Hello Contact or Meeting, Evernote Hello uses the system GPS to determine the device's current location as well as the names of known locations nearby. This allows the user to assign a name to the location where a meeting took place.
 	 EMAIL: Evernote Hello can be configured to automatically send the owner's contact information to new people added to Hello. 
 	 SOCIAL NETWORKS: We encourage users to log in to their Facebook and LinkedIn accounts in order to pre-populate new contacts' profile information.

EVERNOTE HELLO IOS

	No data is transmitted to Evernote unless the user creates that information inside the Hello application.

When a new meal is begun by attaching an image, we read the information embedded in the image and use the date, time and location to determine when and where the meal took place for the user automatically.
 	 CONTACT DATA: This is used to allow the Android application to access your contact list in order to autocomplete email addresses when you email a meal. We do not share your entire contact list with the Evernote Service; this information is used exclusively to send emails.
 	 LOCATION SERVICES: If authorized, Evernote Food utilizes the built-in GPS service to determine the device's current location and suggest candidate restaurants and food retailers that could be used as the meal's location. If your current location isn't in the list of candidates, you can supply a custom name ("Mom's house", etc.).
 	 EVERNOTE LOGIN CREDENTIALS: After logging into Evernote, your login credentials are stored in the system keychain. This allows you to use Evernote without having to log in each time the app launches. Login information is also used to allow you to easily log in to other Evernote applications.

When a new meal is begun by uploading an image, we read the information embedded in the image and use the date, time and location to determine when and where the meal took place for the user automatically.
 	 CONTACT DATA: Evernote Food needs access to your contacts in order to autocomplete email addresses when you email a note. But, contact information is not sent to Evernote during this process. Evernote Food uses the native emailing functionality made available to iOS developers; this component has access to the address book, but Evernote Food never directly accesses contact data.
 	 LOCATION SERVICES: If authorized, Evernote Food utilizes the built-in GPS service to determine the device's current location and suggest candidate restaurants and food retailers that could be used as the meal's location. If your current location isn't in the list of candidates, you can supply a custom name ("Mom's house", etc.).
 	 RECIPE CLASSIFICATION: Evernote Food will scan all notes in the user's Evernote account to recognize and present recipes in My Cookbook.
 	 HELP EVERNOTE: Enabling "Help Evernote" will improve automatic recipe identification by allowing Evernote to access an anonymous copy of any note you manually add as a recipe or mark as "not a recipe" in the My Cookbook section of Evernote food.
 	 EVERNOTE LOGIN CREDENTIALS: After logging into Evernote, your login credentials are stored in the system keychain. This allows you to use Evernote without having to log in each time the app launches. Login information is also used to allow you to easily log in to other Evernote applications.
 	 ACTIVITY LOG DATA: This is used to help improve the product if you encounter a problem. For example, if the application crashes, you can select "Activity Log" from the "Settings" screen.
